Culture
Medels has its own church within the Evangelical Reformed Rheinwald parish. Services are held alternately in the five villages. Medels's Reformed church was built in 1708 and served as the parish church of an independent parish from 1726 to 1886.
The church tower has a tent-shaped roof and stands on the slope to protect the entrance from avalanches or snow slides. Inside the church are a pulpit without a sounding board and a baptismal and communion table in the centre of the choir. The history of the village also includes the fact that Medels was originally used as an alpine pasture by Romansh people from Schams and was settled by the Walser people.
Winter Trails and Routes
Along the young Rhine, the Medelserloipe cross-country ski trail offers views of Guggernüll and Einshorn. The Talwanderung winter hiking route runs through Medels and passes the church before continuing towards Nufenen. It is 11 kilometres long and leads from Splügen to Hinterrhein.
From Nufenen, the Rheinwald Route runs via Medels along the left bank of the river back to Splügen.
