Blankenburg: Hotels and accommodation

Culture

The local history includes the Bettelried farming community, known as “der Schwarzenbach”. In 1686, it comprised meadows and a barn in Bettelried.

At Am Hüsy-Stutz 6 in Blankenburg, only the lower building of the former workshop remains. Initially, up to three journeymen and one apprentice were employed in the workshop.

Approximately 230 ceramic objects in museums and collections in Switzerland, Germany and England are attributed to Abraham Martis’s production. His ceramics use white slip and decoration featuring blue or polychrome underglaze brushwork. Forty-six surviving objects bear dates between 1749 and 1789; these correspond to Martis’s time in Blankenburg.

Trails and nature

The Scheidegg route leads over alpine meadows, through forests and along mountain streams down to Blankenburg. It first reaches Betelriedgasse and then continues to Blankenburg railway station. Trains stop there on request.

Blankenburg Castle can be reached on foot from Zweisimmen in about 30 minutes. Sparenmoos, a raised bog suitable for hiking, biking and observing nature, is also located near Zweisimmen.
