Culture and history

A historical city walk leads to selected historic sites in the city for independent exploration. During an archaeological excavation in Enköping, a paved road was discovered that has been dated to the beginning of the 11th century. Vårfrukyrkan stands on Kyrkåsen; construction began in the 12th century, and at that time it served as a church for a larger area. Below Kyrkåsen is the ruin of St Ilian's Church, which was built at the end of the 13th century.

Enköping Museum is housed in the former town hall, which was built as early as 1783. The museum presents the cultural history of the municipality from the Stone Age to almost the present day and, in addition to permanent exhibitions, shows temporary exhibitions on various themes. Westerlundska gården is a museum in the former home and practice of Doctor Westerlund.

Industrial history is presented at the Bahco Museum. It traces the journey from local innovation with J. P. Johansson's adjustable wrench to global success. Machines, films and objects from the company's industrial history are on display, including a spring hammer machine, lathes, special-purpose machines and objects from the company's industrial fire brigade.

Water and nature

Vattenparken near Korsängen is a nature area that combines recreation with the treatment of large parts of Enköping's rainwater and provides a habitat for birds. Haga ekbackar can be reached by bicycle from the vicinity of Enköping; there you will find views of the lake, oak stands and hazel groves.

Nearby, five kilometres south of Enköping city centre, Bredsandsbadet offers a long sandy beach, a diving tower, jetties, a beach volleyball court and a kiosk. From Bredsand, kayak or canoe launches provide access to Lake Mälaren and the islands of Skarpan and Gröneborg.

At Enköping harbour stand red-painted grain warehouses dating from the late 18th century. There is also a guest harbour with ten berths and parking spaces for motorhomes. Enköping can be reached by boat via Lake Mälaren; several harbours have guest berths.

Art and exercise

Åpromenaden is an approximately two-kilometre route to public artworks. It can be visited year-round, around the clock and in any weather. At a leisurely pace, with short stops at the artworks, the art walk takes approximately 50 to 60 minutes and begins and ends in Drömparken.

For cyclists, Cykelleden Uppland runs as an 80-kilometre cycle route through the Lake Mälaren landscape between Enköping and Bålsta via Örsundsbro. The mountain biking trail in Gånsta is a blue-marked, four-kilometre route that begins at the obstacle course in Gånsta.
