Flemingsberg: Cross-country Skiing, Forest and Culture
Accommodation in Flemingsberg
In Flemingsberg, illuminated cross-country ski trails in Flemingsbergsskogen Nature Reserve meet forest paths, natural areas and cultural attractions. The illuminated Visättra trails in Flemingsbergsskogen Nature Reserve are groomed for cross-country skiing. The meadows next to Visättra Sports Centre are also prepared for this winter sport.
Outdoors in Flemingsberg
Flemingsbergsskogen is a municipal nature reserve close to the city, with natural woodland, pine forest on rocky ground, wetlands, as well as more nutrient-rich spruce and broadleaf forests. The large contiguous woodland lies between Flemingsberg and Gladökvarn. It is protected to preserve the natural forest and its valuable plant and animal life. One of the entrances to the nature reserve is located at Visättra Sports Centre. The various forest types and wetlands shape the character of the protected area.
The 2.5-kilometre illuminated fitness trail also starts there. The large outdoor gym at the sports centre is built entirely of wood and has equipment for deadlifts, back extensions, sit-ups, dips, bench presses, shoulder presses, squats, jumping exercises and balance training. The range therefore extends from strength exercises to jumping and balance training. If you are out with children, Visättra nature playground is located in an open meadow area and on a densely wooded slope.
Hiking Trails and Historical Sites
In the area around Flemingsberg, the old Sockenvägen now runs through Flemingsbergsskogen as a popular hiking trail and past Stensättra hillfort. The hillfort lies south of Flemingsbergsviken and is considered the best-preserved hillfort in Huddinge; from there, the view extends across Orlången. Stensättra hillfort is also an archaeological site dating from the Iron Age.
Stensbergsleden also runs in the area around Flemingsberg. The trail follows gravel roads and paths through pine forest on rocky ground, spruce forest, wetlands and pastureland. This should be distinguished from the Stenbergsleden hiking trail, which is also called Gröna spåret. It runs between Sundby and Visättra and is marked with green diamonds. The green diamond marking serves as a navigation feature between Sundby and Visättra.
Local Character, Art and Digital Cultural Experiences
Flemingsbergsparken is located in the centre of Flemingsberg, between the university area and the Grantorp residential district. Western Flemingsberg is characterised by 18 tall residential buildings in vivid colours. The aluminium façades of the buildings were designed by artist Gert Marcus in various shades. The park is therefore centrally located, while the colourful high-rises characterise the western part of Flemingsberg.
Another special feature is Konstbron beneath Regulatorbron in Flemingsberg. There, art can be experienced around the clock in an unusual public and everyday setting. In addition, the digital walk in Flemingsberg uses 360-degree films. Such films show the surroundings all around, rather than from just one fixed viewing direction. Together with building antiquarian and guide Stina Hagelqvist, the digital walk provides access to places that are otherwise inaccessible and conveys access to the cultural heritage.
For sports and leisure equipment, Flemingsberg has Fritidsbanken, a free lending service at Ebba Bååts torg 20, which can be visited during opening hours. You can also explore Huddinge, Segeltorp and Vårby as other places in the same area.
