Winter sports, outdoor recreation area and trails outside the locality

The Nautanenloppet ski race was started in 1923. It is held in the classic style over 6 km or alternatively over 9 km. At Nautanenloppet 2025, a children’s race was also held in the park after the main race. This information refers to the event in 2025 and does not describe a future event date.

For activities other than the race, Koskullskulle has an outdoor recreation area with play equipment, a pump track and an outdoor fitness area. This describes play, cycling activity and exercise as elements of the facility, without implying specific suitability for every age or ability group.

Devil’s Gorge is located between Koskullskulle and Tjautjasjaure. The access route begins just outside Koskullskulle and leads there on foot or by bicycle. The footpath from the road to Devil’s Gorge is simply a little over 3 km long. Experienced mountain bikers can cycle almost the entire route.

A prohibition zone applies to areas in the vicinity of Koskullskulle that have been planned in detail. Within this zone, snowmobile traffic is permitted only on marked trails in the terrain. The rule therefore applies to this area and not generally to the entire surrounding area.

Solbacken and the history of the relocated houses

A particular focus is Solbacken. A total of 30 historic cultural heritage houses from various parts of Malmberget were relocated to Solbacken in Koskullskulle. Solbacken was developed in stages, while the houses were gradually brought there. Their shared present-day location therefore differs from their former locations in Malmberget.

The historic buildings include Disponentvillan. It was built in 1894 and served as an LKAB directors’ residence in Malmberget until the first half of the 1980s. Today, the historic building is being reconstructed in Koskullskulle; it will become an important part of the locality. Its former function in Malmberget and its present-day reconstruction in Koskullskulle thus mark two geographical connections of the same building. The artwork “Gruvarbetare skjuter hund” is also located in the park in Koskullskulle. S:t Josefs kapell is likewise located in Koskullskulle. Solbacken, the park and S:t Josefs kapell are located within the locality; access to Devil’s Gorge, by contrast, begins outside it.

If you would also like to consider another locality, you can include Gällivare as well.

For the overarching travel overview: Gällivare Municipality.
