Topolšica: Accommodation, Thermal Spa and Butterfly Trails

The diverse terrain and the special microclimate associated with a thermal water spring provide suitable living conditions for many different butterfly species in the surrounding area of Topolšica and Lom.

Nature

The themed butterfly trail “Za metulji na potep” runs through Topolšica and Lom. All three versions of this trail begin at the Topolšica natural spa. The trail offers views of the Šaleška Valley as well as impressions of blooming meadows and the surrounding forests. Another signposted connection is Route 3, which leads from the Topolšica spa resort along its slopes. More than 140 butterfly species live year-round along Route 3 from Topolšica to Lom.

History

On 9 May 1945, German Colonel General Alexander Löhr signed the unconditional surrender of his units in Topolšica, near Šoštanj. The memorial room “Topolšica 9. maj 1945” commemorates this historical context. It can be visited around the clock throughout the year; admission is free every day of the year.

St. James Church is located in Topolšica and is listed in the municipal inventory under the designation S 19 in area K 9/5c.

Wellness

Topolšica Spa Park is protected as garden-architectural heritage. Protected walking paths run along the Toplica stream within the park. The history of Terme Topolšica also goes back a long way: they were first opened to the public in 1838, at that time under the name Florjanove toplice.

The indoor and outdoor pool complex at Terme Topolšica, open year-round, includes a semi-Olympic pool with direct access to the outdoor area. In addition, Terme Topolšica offers massages and care programs.

Hiking Trails

The Topolšica podeželje Tourist Association maintains well-kept hiking trails such as the “Sončna pot čez Lom”. “Metuljev dan”, a family event, is also associated with the Tourist Association.
