Bardejovské Kúpele: Hotel for a skiing holiday between healing springs and nature

The mineral waters of Bardejovské Kúpele are used mainly for drinking cures, mineral baths and inhalations. The mineral water has natural healing properties; it is weakly to moderately mineralised, bicarbonate-chloride, sodium-bearing, iron-bearing and carbonated, cold and hypotonic; it also has an increased boric acid content.

Healing Springs and Wellness

The wellness complex in Bardejovské Kúpele is open to spa guests as well as visitors and guests from the wider region and abroad. It comprises a water world and a sauna world. In addition, Bardejovské Kúpele has an outdoor swimming pool with water heated to 26 °C. The main pool measures 33 × 15 metres, while the children's pool measures 4 × 4 metres.

Culture and History

The first written mention of Bardejovské Kúpele dates from 1247. Regular spa treatment began here in the 15th century. The exhibition “Bardejovské Kúpele – Oasis of Peace and Health” presents the development of Bardejovské Kúpele in four exhibition rooms, from the first written mention to the present day.

Another insight into the history of the spa resort can be found on the ground floor of the Alžbeta Spa House: this is where the Muzeálny apartmán Sisi Museum is located. Sisi stayed in Bardejovské Kúpele from 1 July 1895 to 22 July 1895. The Sisi educational trail refers to this connection, comprises seven stops, is 2.3 kilometres long and takes approximately 45 minutes at a leisurely pace.

In the ethnopark, 31 exhibits are distributed across an area of 1.6 hectares. They present the folk culture and architecture of the Slovak and Ruthenian populations. The folk architecture exhibition includes a unique water-powered drilling rig for producing wooden water pipes, made predominantly from pine wood. The folk architecture exhibition is the oldest exhibition of its kind in Slovakia.

Nature and Trails

The Čierna mláka forest educational trail is open year-round and self-guided, beginning at the Nad jazierkom site. It has three circular routes measuring 1.9 kilometres, 3.7 kilometres and 3.9 kilometres. Another notable stop is the Kamenná hora lookout tower, which can be reached from the centre of Bardejovské Kúpele in no more than 20 minutes.

A red-marked hiking trail connects Bardejovské Kúpele with Bardejov. The route to Stebnícka Magura, also marked in red, begins at the outdoor swimming pool and leads to the summit in approximately two hours. The area around Stebnícka Magura is designated a national nature reserve because of its primeval forest stands; the highest protection level, level 5, applies there.

Getting There

City bus routes and some long-distance buses run from Bardejov to Bardejovské Kúpele. The bus journey from Bardejov bus station to Bardejovské Kúpele takes approximately 10 minutes.
