Sihelne: ski hotel, Ski Grúniky and culture

Ski Grúniky is a specifically named winter sports facility located in Sihelné. Ski Grúniky is situated in Grúniky, Sihelné, and has two blue-marked runs with a total length of 1,400 metres. Culture and history

The history of Sihelné dates back to 13 August 1629. On that day, the village was founded through a founding charter issued at Oravský hrad Castle. Another notable feature of the village is the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, which was consecrated in September 1994.

The church has stained-glass windows depicting the three Košice martyrs, Saints Andrej Svorad and Benedict, as well as Saints Cyril and Methodius. A new pipe organ was also inaugurated there during a solemn indulgence Mass on 12 September. Sihelné also has a revitalised, heritage-protected bell tower. An educational trail connects the heritage-protected bell towers in Sihelné.

Events are also part of the cultural calendar. The 33rd Folklore Celebration under Pilsko and Babia Góra took place on 19 July 2026. The Sihelné-Chotár crossing was held for the ninth time in 2026. During this crossing, participants were served kapustnica in the school canteen.

Nature

The highest point in Sihelné is the summit of Sihelniansky hrádok, at 993.4 metres above sea level. Around 50 plant species occur in the cadastral area of Sihelné; many of them are endangered, and several are protected. Another natural feature is the Sihelniansky Stream. Several fish species live in it, including brown trout and chub.

Hiking

Sihelné is an official alternative starting point for the ascent of Pilsko. In addition to winter sports, the village is therefore also connected with a named mountain route. The trail between the heritage-protected bell towers complements this connection to routes within Sihelné, without separating the local cultural and natural themes from one another.
