Krasnaya Polyana combines a local history of skiing with cultural attractions and excursion options. When planning a winter trip, it is helpful to distinguish the town from the nearby mountain resort of Gorki Gorod: the ski slopes described there are an offering in the Krasnaya Polyana area, not a description of slopes in the town itself.

Ski slopes in the area and local history

The nearby mountain resort of Gorki Gorod offers around 30 km of ski slopes. The runs range from green to black difficulty grades and lie at elevations between 960 m and 2,340 m. This gives an idea of the stated range of slope difficulty and their elevation. Slope information can change; check the details for your travel dates.

Krasnaya Polyana itself also has a historical connection to skiing: the company «Alpika-Servis» built the first ski lift there in 1992. This local history contrasts with the current ski offering at the nearby mountain resort. The two details answer different questions: the year belongs to the history of the town, while the slope length, difficulty grades and elevations refer to the mountain resort.

Church and archaeological traces

The Church of Saint Kharalampiya Magneziyskogo is located in Krasnaya Polyana. It was built at the end of the 19th century by Greek settlers from Stavropol, who founded Krasnaya Polyana. The town's history thus converges at this building with the story of the people who founded it.

Another historical feature is the four small, square dolmens on the «Krasnopolyanskiye dolmeny» eco-trail. They are made of sandstone slabs and are about 4,000 to 5,000 years old. Their shape, material and approximate age each provide a distinct way of understanding the dolmens; together, they form an archaeological attraction along the educational trail. The park currently lists the route as closed in its capacity as an ecological educational trail. This access information applies to the trail. Check trail conditions before planning a visit.

Archaeological finds are also displayed in a permanent exhibition at School No. 65 at 42 Turchinskogo Street. The exhibition features finds from antiquity and the Middle Ages from the area of today's Krasnaya Polyana resort. It thus complements the historical sites with a collection spanning several periods. As it is located in a school, check access before your visit.

The church, dolmens and exhibition offer different ways to explore Krasnaya Polyana's past: through its founding history, an archaeological structure and finds from different periods. They can therefore be considered separate cultural attractions, without equating them with the nearby ski offering.
