Kinnkjølen-Ruka is located in Fåberg Vestside, a seter area with numerous hiking trails and ski slopes. Bakseterkjølen is also in Fåberg Vestside: this seter area near Rudsbygd and Jørstadhøgda has an extensive network of hiking trails and cross-country ski trails for summer and winter, stretching as far as Hokna and other municipalities. These offer different points of reference for planning your trip: Kinnkjølen-Ruka has ski slopes, while Bakseterkjølen has hiking trails and cross-country ski trails.

Winter activities and active outings

If you are mainly interested in ski slopes during your stay, Kinnkjølen-Ruka is a specific place to consider. The area lies between Jørstadmoen or Baklia and Saksumdalen. With its network of hiking trails and cross-country ski trails, Bakseterkjølen also appeals to travelers who want to plan walks or ski outings in winter. The networks extend beyond the areas mentioned, reaching Hokna and other municipalities. You can choose based on the activities mentioned for each area, without treating the two seter areas as one and the same.

Another special sports venue is Fåberg Olympiske Bob-og Akebane. It was built for the 1994 Olympic Games and is Scandinavia’s only bobsleigh and luge track. On the Hjulbob, speeds of 100 km/h and forces of 3 G can be reached. This is a different experience from hiking, cross-country skiing or downhill skiing, and may be worth considering if you are thinking about a ride on a bobsleigh and luge track in addition to other winter sports.

Hiking destinations and landscapes

Fåberg has several named peaks that can help you plan your hikes. At 1,091.5 m above sea level, Nevelfjell is Fåberg’s highest mountain and one of the many hiking destinations in Fåberg Østfjell. Prestkjerringa is the second-highest peak in Fåberg Vestfjell and a popular hiking destination with beautiful views. Balbergkampen, east of Hove, offers good views of Fåberg and Lillehammer, as well as of Balberghuska. These destinations differ in location and description; specific trail distances and walking times are not provided here.

For more specific route information, take the Fåberg Kultursti: it leads from Fåberg kirke to the rock carvings at Drotten. The route is 4.3 km long, has an elevation gain of 125 m and takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. Shorter loops are also possible for families. There are six rest stops with benches along the trail. The distance, elevation gain and approximate duration help you work out how this route fits into your day’s plans.

Culture, museums and other experiences

Fåberg kirke is a wooden cruciform church dating from 1727, located near Fåberg in the municipality of Lillehammer. Beside the church is Fåbergsteinen, a runestone that was probably one of three standing stones at the church. Together, the church, stone and cultural trail offer a focus on cultural history, while the peaks and seter areas appeal to other interests.

Norsk Kjøretøyhistorisk Museum displays more than 160 vehicles, including cars, motorcycles, mopeds and bicycles. The collection covers vehicles from the beginning of the 20th century through the 1990s. The Norsk Vegmuseum complex comprises three museums and a large museum park with indoor and outdoor exhibitions. The indoor exhibitions have almost 5,000 m² of space.
