Ask: Culture and Pilgrim History
Accommodation in Ask
The cultural center, church services, and a historic pilgrimage walk provide concrete points of interest in Ask. Gjerdrum kulturhus is centrally located in the town, around 100 meters from the Ask terminal bus station. These places offer different points of interest for a trip to Ask, from events to a former walking route.
Getting around Ask
Fylkesvei 120 runs through Ask, connecting Moss, Lillestrøm, and Hurdal. Together with the approximate distance between the cultural center and the bus station, this helps you orient yourself both in town and along the road.
There is public parking at Gjerdrum kulturhus. Accessible parking spaces are located by the Frivilligsentralen; vehicles displaying a disabled parking permit can also park in a suitable spot by the main entrance. As parking rules may change, check the latest information before setting off.
Culture and church services
Gjerdrum kulturhus has two halls for concerts and performances. Høyenhall is an amphitheater with 190 seats; Solheimstua is a club stage with space for around 80 people. The cultural center is open when activities and performances are taking place. If an event is the reason for your trip, check the date in advance.
Church services are held at Misjonshuset in Ask. If attending a service is part of your visit, confirm the date and time beforehand.
A former pilgrimage walk starting in Ask
A former pilgrimage walk began in Ask on August 9 and ended on Friday, August 13, at Spitalen in Stange. The stages were organized as daily walks of 10 to 20 kilometers. The route described started outside the church office in Ask, continued to Nystulia, crossed the golf course, and climbed along the Fladbybekken to Høyenhall. It then went down Asmyrgata to Hval and back up to Ask. Ask was therefore the starting point of this walk; its destination was Spitalen.
Gjerdrum: nature and trails
In the destination of Gjerdrum, Prekestolen is the highest point, at 410.6 meters above sea level. The ascent is about three kilometers long and runs partly along a gravel road and partly along a trail. Prekestolen Nature Reserve protects 556 dekar of old spruce forest in the municipalities of Gjerdrum and Nittedal. Torshov Nature Reserve protects an old spruce forest rich in deadwood on marine clay.
Other nature and leisure destinations in Gjerdrum offer different attractions: Lysdammen is a swimming area with a landscaped green space along parts of the water and is designed to be accessible. Gjerdrum also has a five-kilometer illuminated ski trail or path.
The routes described also differ in their courses and lengths. The circular route from Harasletta lies entirely within Gjerdrum municipality, passing through forest and over marshes, and goes by two places serving refreshments. The 33.8-kilometer “Langt inn i Gjerdrum” route starts at the Tæruddalen recreational area in Skedsmo, continues to Gjerdrum, and passes four places serving refreshments. Access to the forest roads in Gjerdrum is funded through parking fees at Lysdammen, the toll booth on Sagveien, or online payment.
