Two cross-country ski trails begin directly above Hoxel: the 9-kilometre Kahleid Trail and the 13-kilometre Schinderhannes Trail. Hoxel lies on the edge of the Idar Forest, which is considered an area for extensive hiking and cross-country skiing.

The premium Saar-Hunsrück-Steig trail runs directly past Hoxel and forms a long-distance hiking connection through the area.
