Siuntio offers opportunities for a stay combining cultural and historical sights with nature experiences. Its churches, manor houses and museums tell different chapters of local history; in the Kopparnäs–Störsvik area, forests, lakeshores and trails take centre stage. You can choose your focus based on the places that interest you and the activities you have planned.

Churches, manor houses and local history

The medieval grey stone Church of St. Peter was completed around 1480, according to the latest research. Its star vault and ceiling paintings were added in the early 16th century. If you are interested in historic church architecture and painting, you will find two features from different periods here: the church building and its later additions.

The manor houses also point to different periods in Siuntio’s history. In the Kirkkojoki valley, Erik Fleming had the stone manor house of Suitia built in the 1540s as the main building of his later demesne. Suitia Castle stands in the church village on a small field hill among deciduous trees.

Sjundby Castle was built around 1560. It was the home of the artist Helene Schjerfbeck’s grandmother. This connection offers a distinct biographical perspective on local history, alongside the building and ownership histories of St. Peter’s and Suitia.

Museums and Aleksis Kivi

Fanjunkars was the home of Finnish writer Aleksis Kivi from 1864 to 1871 and is centrally located in Siuntio town centre. The museum room contains objects from the old Fanjunkars as well as personal belongings of Kivi. If you are interested in his life and work, you can include these keepsakes in your travel plans as a tangible point of interest.

The Siuntio Local History Museum comprises seven buildings and is located on the slope of Krejansberget in the church village. The number of buildings makes it possible to experience the museum as more than a visit to a single house. The Gårdskulla Agricultural Museum adds a focus on agricultural history: its collection includes thousands of objects and machines, including tractors. The two museums therefore offer different perspectives, from local history to agriculture.

Nature, trails and practical information

The Kopparnäs–Störsvik recreation and nature reserve includes Störsvik in Siuntio and is managed as a single area. Its characteristic landscapes include the old forests in the interior of Störsvik, Lake Kvarnträsk and its surroundings, and lush shoreline forests and meadows. This nature and recreation area is considered rare and valuable in southern Finland. The trails are suitable for hiking and cycling, so you can choose according to whether you plan to travel on foot or by bike.

For a longer outing, there is the 32-kilometre Siuntio–Inkoo circular route. It starts and ends at Siuntio railway station and includes around 270 metres of elevation gain. Challenging unpaved sections, a lack of trail markings and the need to use a navigation device are important points to consider when preparing. Plan the route based not only on its length, but also on the elevation gain, surface and navigation. The approximate elevation figure remains an estimate.

Siuntio is entirely within the HSL area; Siuntio railway station is the terminus of the Y trains. This information helps you factor rail travel into your journey planning. Check your specific travel dates for timetables and connections. The Municipality of Siuntio’s swimming pool is another facility, located at Hotel Siuntio. It has two pools and saunas.

Other places in the same page section include Kirkkonummi and Hyvinkää.
