When looking for accommodation in Troodos, it is worth distinguishing between Troodos Square and the surrounding villages. There are hotels at the square; other accommodation is available near Troodos Square and especially in Kakopetria, Pano Platres, and Pelendri. You can therefore tailor your search to whether you choose the square as your base or consider a place to stay in one of the villages mentioned.

Accommodation and Getting Your Bearings at Troodos Square

A campsite is located 500 meters east of Troodos Square, right by the main road. It is suitable for longer stays and offers improved facilities. If this type of overnight stay is an option for your trip, check availability for your dates in advance. Troodos Square also has shops, restaurants, and public toilets. These complement the hotels at the square.

The square is accessible by private vehicle, and there is a parking lot there. Rural buses from Lemesos on Route 64 and from Lefkosia on Route BD39 also run to Troodos Square. Since bus services may change, check the current service before you travel.

A paved footpath leads from Troodos Square to the Troodos Visitor Center. The center is 200 meters west of the square, next to the “Dolphin” Tourist Information Center.

Visitor Centers and Nature

A 200-meter-long nature trail runs around the Troodos Visitor Center. Visitors can learn about key features of the plant life and geology of Troodos National Forest Park there. The visitor center also has a lecture and film room where a ten-minute film about the national park can be shown. Groups of up to 40 people can be accommodated there; the center has access for people with disabilities. If you are planning a group visit or specific accessibility arrangements, check the current conditions with the operator in advance.

The Troodos Environmental Centre has an exhibition gallery in its reception area and a film theater with information about the geology, flora, and fauna of the Troodos Mountains. A small botanical and geological trail is connected to the center. Various plants and rock formations can be observed there. Together with the nature trail at the Visitor Center, these offer different ways to explore the landscape, plants, and geology; each facility has its own exhibits and trails.

Hiking Trails and Cycling Route

The Atalanti Trail starts and ends at Troodos Square and loops around Chionistra. Dense stands of black pine and Troodos juniper grow along the trail; an 800-year-old juniper tree also stands there. The trail also passes an entrance tunnel to a chrome mine that has been out of operation since 1982. A drinking water fountain is located three kilometers from the starting point, in the direction of Troodos Square.

The Persephone hiking trail starts 150 meters south of Troodos Square, in the direction of the police station. Its starting point is therefore south of the square, while the Atalanti Trail starts and ends at the square itself. The Troodos Square–Stavros tis Psokas cycling route also starts there. Its first section climbs westward for about 2.5 kilometers, reaches a left-hand turn toward Mount Olympos, and then descends to the village of Prodromos. Check local conditions before setting out.
