Meidling: Palace, Market and Parks
Accommodation in Meidling
An important transport hub is another point of reference. Which one matters to you depends on your plans. Compare the exact hotel address with the destinations you actually want to visit; the district name alone does not describe an individual location.

Hetzendorf Palace: Baroque architecture and interior details
Hetzendorf Palace in Meidling is a Baroque palace and home to the City of Vienna’s Fashion School. This brings together historic architecture and a present-day institutional use. One distinctive detail inside the palace is the Marble Gallery: a small vestibule, or entrance hall, with red stucco marble. The Hetzendorf Palace Church is also part of the architectural setting of the main building. It is dedicated to the Most Holy Trinity and fully integrated into the left wing. Those interested in architecture and culture can therefore explore the same palace from several specific perspectives: its Baroque character, a designed interior and its connection with a present-day fashion school.
Parks with different amenities
The two parks differ in the amenities specifically listed. Haydnpark has playgrounds, basketball courts, fitness equipment and a skate park; it opened in 1926. Miep-Gies-Park also has playgrounds and fitness equipment for body and mind. For planning routes, a distinctive feature is its direct connection to Vienna’s cycling network and the Tscherttegasse U6 station. For a group planning to spend time outdoors together, the comparison offers specific sports facilities on the one hand and two named connections on the other. You can judge which option fits your day better based on the amenities you want and your planned route.
Market and shopping street
Meidling Market opened more than 150 years ago. A farmers’ market is held there on Fridays and Saturdays. The market’s dining options range from award-winning restaurants to Austria’s smallest pastry shop. As individual businesses and schedules can change, check the current schedule and details for a venue before making a special trip to the market. This lets you plan your visit around the farmers’ market or the dining options.
Meidlinger Hauptstraße is another point of reference for shopping. It stretches for several kilometres, is Vienna’s fifth-largest shopping street and has been converted into a pedestrian zone for most of its length. The qualification “for most of its length” is important: the conversion does not cover the entire street. Its length, ranking and largely pedestrianised character together provide a specific picture of this shopping street.
District history and getting there
The Meidling District Museum is the oldest district museum of its kind in Vienna. Individual sections are devoted to entertainment venues, theatres, public baths, clubs and organisations that were formerly based in Meidling. Its historical perspective therefore extends beyond buildings to the district’s former cultural and social institutions.
Meidling Station is one of Vienna’s most important transport hubs. If it is relevant to your onward journey or arrival, check the connections for your travel dates and consider the exact hotel address in relation to it.
