In Rindbach, attractions range from the Rindbach Waterfall to Gassl Show Cave. There are also trails to viewpoints and legendary sites, as well as the leisure facility on Lake Traunsee. When planning, it is worth considering short walks and hikes lasting several hours separately: the walk to the waterfall takes only a few minutes, while the walk to the cave takes about two and a half to two and three-quarter hours.

Waterfall, gorge and shores of Lake Traunsee

The Rindbach Waterfall cascades down several tiers, sometimes in small falls and sometimes in a smooth flow. The Rindbach Gorge and waterfall formed when meltwater, about 17,000 years ago, first cut through deposits of gravel and then through the limestone beneath. The waterfall and gorge are therefore part of the same geological history; the approximate date refers to the period after the ice melted.

From the car park by the shooting range in Rindbach, a well-signposted footpath leads to the waterfall in just a few minutes. The walk is therefore much shorter than the trails to Gassl Show Cave. The route is described, but trail conditions can vary.

The Rindbach leisure facility is on the southern shore of Lake Traunsee. Visitors can swim and spend time there; the facility also has a designated surfing area. Operating details may change. Check which activities are currently available before your visit.

Trails to Gassl Show Cave

From Rindbach, a well-marked trail leads through the Rindbach Valley, past the natural monument of Rindbach Waterfall, to Gassl Show Cave. The walking time is about two and three-quarter hours. Another route description gives a walking time of about two and a half hours from the car park by the shooting range in Ebensee-Rindbach to the cave. The starting points are described differently, so plan according to your actual starting point. Trail conditions and maintenance can affect walking times.

The walking time to the cave is separate from the guided tour inside: this follows a 250-metre-long route and takes about 50 minutes. The Kanzel Hall features particularly impressive stalactite and stalagmite formations, including a six-metre-long stalactite organ. The tour details describe its duration and length, not the time needed to reach the cave.

Legend trails, viewpoints and local history

Legend Trail 1 starts at the paid car park of the Rindbach leisure facility and follows the Rindbach stream to the natural monument of Rindbach Waterfall. There are eight legend trails in total. They can be explored on foot and, in some sections, by bicycle, following the legends and visiting the places associated with them. The Jubilee Trail starts at the junction of Rindbachstraße and Alte Traunstraße and leads to a viewpoint overlooking Ebensee and Lake Traunsee. Trail conditions may change.

Eibenberg also offers different views: from its mountain pine-covered ridge, you can look northwest towards Lake Traunsee, more than 1,000 metres below, and southeast towards Offensee. Visibility depends on the weather. Historically, at the turn of the 20th century, the Rindbach district was the centre of summer holidaymaking in Ebensee. This local history adds a distinct historical perspective to the natural attractions and trails.

Stops and local planning

The timetable for line 555, valid from 15 February 2026, lists four stops in Rindbach: Jocherbrücke, Rindbachstraße, Schöffauweg and Alte Traunstraße. Check the current timetable before travelling. If you are planning a stay with several outings, it helps to factor the different starting points and timings into your day: the waterfall, Legend Trail 1 and the trails to the cave do not all start in the same place.

When looking for a hotel in Rindbach, you can organize your plans by the time involved: a short walk to the waterfall, a longer hike to the cave or time at the leisure facility. This lets you compare different kinds of outings without combining them into a single route. Check current activities at the leisure facility and the timetable if you plan to include them during your stay.
