Hochfügen: Ski holidays between slopes and high-altitude cross-country trails

Hochfügen is located at around 1,500 metres in an alpine pasture area with unobstructed views of the Zillertal Alps. There are several documented options for days with different interests. At around 1,500 metres, a high-altitude cross-country ski trail runs through the Zillertal Alps. It can be used for both classic-style and skating-style skiing. Hochfügen also has a 1.5-kilometre toboggan run. This allows you to make your travel plans more varied without viewing the resort solely in terms of alpine skiing.

The network of routes around Hochfügen also leads across alpine pastures, through mountain forests and into higher alpine regions. On the “Hochfügen – Life on the Alpine Pasture” themed trail, hikers collect clues, solve puzzles and follow tracks along the route. The Pfaffenbichl via ferrata is around 260 metres long and leads over a 28-metre-long suspension bridge to the summit of the 2,431-metre-high Pfaffenbichl. It has 115 metres of elevation gain. The maximum difficulty level is rated B.

Journey via Fügen

From Fügen, a 12-kilometre, well-signposted high-altitude road leads to Hochfügen and ends at the car park directly by the lifts. Those wishing to reach the ski area via Hochfügen can get off the Zillertalbahn train at Fügen-Hart and take the ski bus from there. These two options are important for travel planning if you are transporting ski equipment or choosing accommodation that is not directly in the ski area.

Other activities around Hochfügen

Hochfügen is not just a starting point for winter sports. Several mountain biking routes around the resort lead through the mountainous landscape of the Zillertal Alps. The options mainly include longer tours with significant elevation gains, running along forest tracks and existing connections. During the warmer months, visitors ride down a plastic track on large tyres on the summer tubing run and return to the top on a conveyor belt. The archery park is located directly in the area of the Holzalm bottom station and caters to both beginners and experienced archers.

Multi-day activities also include Hochfügen: the resort is a stage stop on routes through the Alps and as part of Alpine crossings. A four-day Alpine crossing through four countries leads via Hochfügen.
