Hainzenberg combines mountain cable car experiences, hiking trails, tobogganing and regional culture. The tandem cable car takes you to an altitude of 1,650 m, where you can start a hike or mountain tour directly. This allows you to organize your stay differently depending on your travel group and daily plans.

Cable Car and Trails into the Mountain World

From the mountain station of the Gerlosstein cable car, hiking trails lead to Brandberg, Mayrhofen and Ramsau, as well as in the direction of Gerlos. The Gerlos high-altitude trail also begins at the mountain station on Hainzenberg, leading across alpine meadows to the Heimjöchl and onwards to the Brandbergjoch. If you are looking for a specific, easy hike, you can plan the route to the Zillertal Almtribüne. Along this route, there are stories about Zillertal culture and nature.

What this means for choosing your accommodation: you can consider Hainzenberg as a starting point for mountain tours, but you should also include the exact location of your chosen property and your planned journey as separate factors in your search. The cable car provides access to several described trails, while the individual tours have different destinations and routes.

Toboggan Run, Almflieger and Via Ferrata

Another option for planning your day is the illuminated Gerlosstein natural toboggan run. It is approximately 7 km long and leads from the mountain station of the Gerlosstein cable car to the valley station in Dörfl. The Gerlosstein Almflieger runs along four sections measuring up to 738 m in length and reaches a maximum speed of 50 km/h. This means that, in addition to hikes, there are other documented mountain experiences to choose from.

On the Gerlossteinwand via ferrata, the approximately 400 m-long route runs along the wall to a summit at an altitude of 2,166 m. If you are travelling with different interests, you can include this option separately from a hike, a toboggan ride or a cultural visit in your daily plans. Another, easier option is the route to the Zillertal Almtribüne.

Pilgrimage Church and Cheese Dairy

Hainzenberg also offers points of interest for travellers interested in culture. Construction of today’s Maria Rast pilgrimage church began in 1738, replacing a small wooden chapel. In 1748, the church was fitted with a Rococo altar by Stefan Föger. Every year, many people from near and far make a pilgrimage to the Madonna of Maria Rast.

The village’s regional character also includes the dairy museum at the Hochzeller Käsealm. It is located in an authentically reconstructed alpine hut that is more than 150 years old and displays restored, functioning historical equipment. Following traditional recipes, the Hochzeller Käsealm mainly produces cheese as well as bacon, smoked sausages and schnapps. This allows you to complement a stay in the mountains with an insight into local craft traditions and regional products.

Choosing Hainzenberg to Suit Your Travel Plans

If you are looking for accommodation for a winter holiday in Hainzenberg, you can first decide which experiences should shape your stay: starting out with the Gerlosstein cable car at 1,650 m, trails across alpine meadows, the approximately 7 km-long natural toboggan run, the Almflieger, the via ferrata or Maria Rast pilgrimage church. For families and mixed groups, it is helpful not to view the day’s ideas as one uniform programme, but to divide them according to interests. While some travellers choose a mountain tour or the via ferrata, others can plan an easy hike, tobogganing or a cultural and museum visit.

If you would like to compare other places for your accommodation search, you can also find Uderns, Hippach, Mayrhofen, Stummerberg, Hippach-Schwendberg, Buch In Tirol, Schöneben and Schlitters here as well.
