Gagering: Local History, the Zillertal Railway and Cycle Path
Accommodation in Gagering
Gagering can be understood through its local history, railway and walking and cycling routes. The Zillertal Railway serves Gagering as a request stop. You can take a walk along the Ziller towards Hart im Zillertal.
Local History and Landscape
Gagering was mentioned as “Gägeringen” in the mid-14th century. The houses originally belonged to the municipality of Schlitters, while the fields belonged to Fügen. Since 1857, Gagering has been part of the municipality of Fügen. This makes it possible to distinguish the former allocation of houses and fields from the later municipal affiliation in chronological terms. The settlement is situated on the small gravel fan of the Gageringer or Schwoager-Bachl stream. A gravel fan can be understood as a cone-shaped area of gravel; here, the landform adds a specific connection to the houses and the stream to the local history. The name, municipal affiliation and location of the settlement thus provide different points of reference for understanding Gagering.
Rail Connection to Gagering
The Zillertal Railway’s ZB1 line runs daily between Jenbach and Mayrhofen from 14 June 2026 and serves Gagering as a request stop. When planning your journey, both the connection between the two end points and the status of the stop in Gagering are relevant. Before travelling, check the departure times in the timetable that applies to your travel date. This lets you plan your rail journey to suit your arrival day and take the request-stop designation into account. The named end points help you understand the route geographically; the specific departure time is part of planning for your travel date.
Walking and Cycling
From Gagering, you can take a walk along the Ziller towards Hart im Zillertal. For a cycling tour in the Zillertal, the 31-kilometre Zillertal Cycle Path runs from Strass to Mayrhofen and can also be ridden in the opposite direction. The cycle path is considered a family route, offering a way to explore the entire Zillertal by bike. There are therefore different activities to choose from: a walk along the Ziller towards Hart or a regional cycling tour with named end points. When planning your activities, you can first decide whether you would like to explore on foot or plan a cycling route in the Zillertal.
