Emberg is a scattered settlement belonging to Kaltenbach, in the heart of the Zillertal. These topics answer different questions about planning your trip. This will help you weigh up whether the character of the village, a hiking destination or access to winter sports facilities matters most when choosing where to stay.

Location and rural character

The term “scattered settlement” describes the settlement pattern, while Kaltenbach indicates the municipal affiliation and the Zillertal the regional setting. Emberg is characterised by the Zillertal farmhouses typical of this region. The settlement pattern and traditional rural architecture combine to give the village a distinct rural character.

More than two-thirds of Kaltenbach’s total area consists of agricultural and forestry land, mainly on Emberg. This figure applies to the municipality as a whole; these areas are concentrated on Emberg. This distinction puts the scale into perspective: the statement is about Kaltenbach, with a clearly identified concentration on Emberg. At Pöllsteinhof, Innere Embergstraße 33, the connection to the landscape becomes tangible: the farm lies on the road leading up to the Zillertaler Höhenstraße and is surrounded by forests and meadows.

Chapel, hut and hiking trails

The Hubertus Chapel on Emberg, above Kaltenbach, was built in the summer of 1984 and solemnly consecrated in honour of Saint Hubert on 2 September 1984. The Uli Hut reflects an older history of rural construction: it is a former mountain farmhouse dating from 1663 that was converted into a rustic hut. The hut is situated at an altitude of 730 m on the Zillertaler Höhenstraße. The chapel and the Uli Hut thus bring different architectural and historical points of reference to the description of the village.

The Hubertus Wildlife Trail starts at the Hubertus Chapel. The seasonal hiking programme for FĂĽgen-Kaltenbach also lists a hike to the Wetterkreuzspitze (2,254 m). At the beginning, the route follows the Hubertus Wildlife Trail by the chapel. The trailhead and the hiking destination should be distinguished: the chapel is at the start of the trail, while the Wetterkreuzspitze is the destination of the hike. Check the current dates in the hiking programme before your trip.

Ski holidays and connections

A road leads from Emberg to the Hochzillertal ski area; the regional services also include the “Skibus Hochzillertal-Emberg” ski bus. These are two different aspects to consider when planning for winter: the road connection to the ski area and the named ski bus. Check the current ski bus timetable for your travel dates.

The Hochfügen-Hochzillertal ski area comprises two ski areas covered by a joint lift pass. The pass arrangement therefore applies to both areas; the road from Emberg, on the other hand, leads to the Hochzillertal ski area. These details are not interchangeable when choosing where to stay: the joint lift pass is valid for two ski areas, while the road information describes Emberg’s connection to Hochzillertal.
