Dorfgastein: Skiing at Fulseck and trails for active days
For a skiing holiday in Dorfgastein, the Dorfgastein–Großarltal ski area is the main point of reference in winter. It offers 70 kilometres of pistes for beginners and experts.
In addition to the ski area, Dorfgastein also offers a mountain with numerous trails and other activities. This is particularly relevant for groups in which not everyone spends their time exclusively on the slopes.
Fulseck as a mountain and adventure area
Fulseck is 2,033 metres high and serves as a destination and starting point for many easy and alpine hikes. There are 17 officially marked hiking trails in total. This range is important for understanding the mountain: the network includes both easier and alpine hikes, without implying general suitability for every person or every season.
The Kleine Gipfeltour starts at the top station of the Fulseck summit lift and follows a mountain trail to Keeskopf before continuing to Fulseck. The circular hike takes around 20 minutes. The route starts at the top station and not at any specific accommodation.
Spiegelsee is also located at Fulseck. It is a reservoir at around 1,800 metres above sea level, near the top station of the Fulseck summit lift. It can be reached via a short hiking trail. A barefoot trail leads around the lake and partly runs through the water.
Fulseck also offers two different routes. A 4.8-kilometre descent from the top station of Fulseck to the middle station can be made on a three-wheeled mountain cart, covering more than 500 metres of elevation. In addition, a 10-kilometre MTB single trail runs from the top station of the Fulseck summit lift to the middle station of the Panorama cable car. The mountain-cart descent and the MTB single trail are not part of the ski area's piste network.
The Kleine Gipfeltour and the MTB single trail both start at a top station, but they do not follow the same route: the hiking route runs via Keeskopf to Fulseck, while the single trail ends at the middle station of the Panorama cable car.
The elevations distinguish the destinations described: Fulseck is at 2,033 metres, Spiegelsee at around 1,800 metres, while Entrische Kirche is located at 1,040 metres above sea level above the Klammstein district.
History and geology around Dorfgastein
Historical points of reference include Klammstein Castle. It was the administrative centre of the Gastein Valley until 1520. The Rupertuskirche church in Dorff was founded in 1350.
Another independent attraction is Entrische Kirche. It is a large cave in Klamm limestone, partly formed as a dry cave, a dripstone cave, and a water cave. It is located in Luxkogel at 1,040 metres above sea level above the Klammstein district.
