Airports for a ski holiday in the Italian Alps

Several airports are worth considering for Italy’s ski resorts. The best choice depends on whether you’re travelling to Piedmont, the Aosta Valley, Trentino or the Dolomites. Compare the flight and onward journey to your accommodation together.

Turin (TRN): Piedmont and the western Alps

Turin can be a convenient option for ski resorts in Piedmont and destinations near the French border, including Sestriere and Bardonecchia. Check whether there is a suitable train, bus or transfer connection on your travel date. Cuneo Airport (CUF) is another regional option, but its connections are different and often more limited.

Venice (VCE) and Treviso (TSF): the eastern Dolomites

Depending on your resort, Venice and Treviso may be suitable arrival airports for the Dolomites. What matters is the onward connection to your valley and the services running on your specific travel date. A ski shuttle can be useful, but it may operate only on certain days or serve selected destinations.

Verona (VRN): Trentino and the western Dolomites

Verona is one possible option for destinations in Trentino and parts of the Dolomites, such as the areas around Val di Fassa or Madonna di Campiglio. Compare the onward journey with options via Venice, Treviso and rail connections; the best choice depends on your exact resort.

Bolzano (BZO): regional access to South Tyrol

Bolzano Airport is close to South Tyrol’s ski resorts, but it is a small regional airport with limited services. Check whether suitable flights and connections are available for your dates. Larger airports may be the more practical choice, even if the drive is longer.

Plan for transfers and luggage

Before booking, check timetables, shuttle operating days, changes and the route from the stop to your accommodation. Ask the airline about registration requirements and fees for ski or snowboard equipment. Also allow plenty of time for your return journey.
