Georgia’s winter destinations are located in the Caucasus. Planning a trip therefore involves more than just conditions on the mountain: onward travel from the airport, road conditions and the exact location of your accommodation also matter. Transfers may take longer in snow or changeable weather than the map suggests.

Ski resorts and choosing where to go
Gudauri, Bakuriani and Goderdzi differ in elevation, piste options and accommodation. Gudauri is about a two-hour drive from Tbilisi. The resort ranges from 1,989 to 3,276 metres in altitude and has 20 pistes with a total length of 37 kilometres, as well as 18 lifts. Pistes are graded from beginner to very difficult.
Bakuriani is at an altitude of 1,700 metres and 180 kilometres from Tbilisi. Its 23 ski routes, ranging from beginner to expert, are complemented by an ice rink and other leisure activities. This may be relevant for families or groups with different interests.
Goderdzi has 200-metre-long practice slopes. An eight-person gondola lift and a six-person chairlift provide access to the area. Accommodation options include hotels and cottages at the ski resort, as well as guesthouses in the village of Danisparauli, three kilometres away. There is a restaurant and fast-food outlets in the area.
Weather and safety
Snow, wind and road conditions can change quickly. The Federal Foreign Office strongly advises against travel to Abkhazia, South Ossetia and the immediate vicinity of the conflict regions (as of 1 November 2026). For your ski day, rely on local weather, lift and access information.
