Skiing in Croatia

• Medvednica, also known as Zagrebačka gora, lies north of Zagreb; its summit, Sljeme, reaches 1,035 metres.
• Sljeme’s ski runs are on the ridge and northern slopes, and together extend for around four kilometres.
• Crveni spust descends the steeper northern slope; night skiing is available there and on Bijela livada when the resort is operating.
• Platak lies north of Rijeka; the drive from the A6 exit takes about 20 minutes.
• Radeševo is Platak’s central ski slope, with red and blue runs; from the slopes, views extend across Kvarner Bay.

Sljeme is the highest peak of Medvednica, whose Croatian name is also Zagrebačka gora. The runs follow the upper ridge and the northern slopes, with a total length of around four kilometres. Named runs include Crveni spust, Zeleni spust, Plavi spust, Bijeli spust and Bijela livada. Crveni spust follows the steeper northern slope. The ski area is therefore on Zagreb’s home mountain.

Crveni spust and Bijela livada are lit for evening skiing, and several runs have snowmaking. Sljeme makes a good destination for a day in the mountains, which can be combined with a stay in Zagreb.

Platak offers a different setting: this ski area with sea views is close to Rijeka and Opatija. It is about a 20-minute drive from the A6 exit. Radeševo is the central ski slope. It has two red runs and a blue tourist run, as well as shorter runs at Pribeniš and Tešnje and a beginners’ slope. Platak also has a toboggan and tubing track.

Views of Kvarner Bay (Kvarnerski zaljev), the mountain setting and the short connection to the coast define Platak. This makes it a different option from combining Sljeme with a visit to the capital. The slope overview with operating status for Platak shows the individual runs and lifts.
