Summer in Karwendel

Now, during the summer months, visitors are to be drawn to the ski area by high-quality cultural offerings, in the district capital of Schwaz, with its nearly 13, residents. Schwaz enjoys a beautiful setting in the Inn Valley, with the river winding romantically through the town. The regional capital, Innsbruck, lies to the east and is just a 20-minute drive away. Deposits of silver and copper once brought the community great prosperity. In the 15th and 16th centuries, 20,000 people lived here, and Schwaz was the second-largest city in the Habsburg Empire after Vienna. At the time, Schwaz was the largest mining town in all of Europe.

Schwaz Summer Concerts

The Schwaz Summer Concerts take place in July and August. Serenade concerts are performed in the cloister arcade or, weather permitting, in the courtyard of the Franciscan monastery. The backdrop is the Franciscan monastery church, built 500 years ago and renowned as the most beautiful church of a mendicant order in the entire Alpine region.

On July 13, the “Salzburger Saitenklang” opens the concert season with zither, harp and guitar. Works by Vivaldi, Telemann and Mozart are on the programme on July 20, when the “Adamus Trio Prague” performs on harpsichord, violin and oboe. “The London Recorder Quartet”—four musicians playing recorders—will perform on August 3, presenting Baroque and classical pieces. Mozart, Bizet, Haydn and Françaix are on the programme on August 17, when the Munich Woodwind Quintet performs in Schwaz. Traditionally, the “Salzburg Mozart Soloists” bring the season to a close with their performance on August 24.
