Variety show marks the end of the Zugspitze ski season on 1 May
The ski season is soon coming to an end even on Germany’s highest peak. On 1 May, the Zugspitze will celebrate the successful ski season in style. Germany’s only glacier invites you to a closing event at dizzying heights. Bayerische Zugspitzbahn Bergbahn AG and the GOP Varieté-Theater Munich are hosting the event.

Spectacular variety entertainment will sweeten the end of the ski season for snowboarders, skiers and tobogganers. At almost 3,000 metres, top international acrobats will present their sensational show outdoors in the snow. Seven performers will showcase their breathtaking acts on a trampoline and in the water. The pool is transparent, and the trampoline is set into the snow. Daring performances will raise goosebumps and captivate the audience. Culinary treats will also be served for guests to enjoy and relax. And all this in glorious spring weather, with a stunning view of around 400 peaks—a panorama that made the ski holiday unforgettable, too.
Spectacular acrobats and spectacular nature—the closing event once again brings the magic of the Zugspitze to life. Live saxophone music will enhance the spell of the acrobatics. The fantastic acts of the Caesar Twins have already delighted Queen Elizabeth of England. The acrobats will amaze spectators on the Zugspitze twice, for around half an hour each time: from 11:30 a.m. and again from 1:30 p.m.
On the rungs of a ladder, acrobat Salva will present his balance show with a giant Cyr wheel. And Lena Ries will enchant spectators with graceful performances in a ring attached to a piste-basher. With energy, dynamism, speed and almost weightless grace, the performers will captivate everyone. Naturally, plans are also in place in case bad weather prevents the show from taking place outdoors in the snow. In that event, the SonnAlpin glacier restaurant will serve as the stage for the spectacular closing event. Admission to this farewell celebration is free with a day ski pass or a round-trip ticket for the Zugspitze. Spectators who are not skiing are also very welcome to the show.
This highlight marks the end of the ski season on the Zugspitze. Some visitors will continue to enjoy the glorious spring sunshine and breathtaking panoramic views. But soon the last skiers will be speeding down the fantastic pistes at breathtaking heights. Before long, the Zugspitze will fall quiet—until the next ski season on Germany’s highest glacier. Next autumn, skiers will once again be able to enjoy the pistes, probably starting in October or November 2011.
