Ski World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen 2011

All of Garmisch-Partenkirchen is looking forward to the Ski World Championships, which will take place from February 7 to February 20, 2011, in the Upper Bavarian winter sports resort (as we reported). Maria Riesch, two-time Olympic gold medalist at the 2010 Vancouver Games, and German slalom specialist Felix Neureuther can expect a true home-field advantage at the World Championships.

Preparations for the 2011 Ski World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen are in full swing, so that the opening ceremony can be held at 6 p.m. on February 7, 2011, at the Garmisch-Partenkirchen Olympic Ski Stadium. The following day, the championships will begin with the women's and men's Super-G events. Arrangements have been made to ensure the competitions run smoothly, but the organizers are also working flat out on preparations away from the slopes in the final days before the 2011 Ski World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen begin.

Workspaces are currently being prepared in Garmisch-Partenkirchen for the journalists and reporters who, as expected, have registered in large numbers to cover the 2011 Ski World Championships. The “nerve center”—the media center—is being set up for journalists from around the world in Hall 2 of the Garmisch-Partenkirchen Olympic Ice Sports Centre (OEZ). A total of 512 journalists will have a place there. To ensure journalists have the best possible working conditions during the 2011 Ski World Championships, workers have already laid carpets and set up desks in the media center. The organizers are currently busy laying many meters of power and data cables to enable reporters to file their stories back to their home countries and news stations. Meetings and press conferences during the 2011 Ski World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen will be held in the neighboring curling hall.

“Snow Festival—Bavarian through and through”: this is the motto chosen by the organizers for the 2011 Alpine Ski World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Those unable to attend in person can look forward to comprehensive television coverage. ARD, for example, will broadcast the opening show live from the Olympic Ski Stadium and has announced that it will devote considerable technical and production resources to the event. The organizers, too, are recognizing the significance of the championships and promise an opening ceremony that will be “remembered for years to come.”
