Money-saving tips for a ski holiday

We reported last week that ski passes will become more expensive in many ski areas across Europe during the 2010/2011 peak season (CLICK HERE to read the article). Experts from the travel and tourism industry have therefore spoken out, offering useful tips, information and advice on how to offset the increased cost of a ski holiday.

Spend Christmas or New Year on a ski holiday

You can also save money if you go on a ski holiday over Christmas or New Year: some hotels include festive Christmas and New Year's Eve dinners in the price of the trip. The experts also recommend looking out for so-called “special saver dates” at hotels. Booking one of these deals can save you money through free nights (for example, “stay 9 days, pay for 7”). The same applies to winter holidays: by booking early, you can save up to 20 percent at hotels thanks to attractive early-booking discounts.

Look out for special offers

To minimize the cost of a ski holiday, the first rule is to look around carefully and, above all, compare prices. Many hotels now offer all-inclusive ski holiday packages, which may include a ski pass for the local ski areas and a ski lesson in the total price. Depending on the ski region, this can save you a lot of money. In addition to a ski pass and lessons, the total price sometimes also includes other exclusive offers from hotels in popular winter sports resorts, such as spa treatments or complimentary drinks with meals. In many regions, local tourist offices offer visitors tourist passes that include a range of extras, such as use of public transport. Some hotels provide these passes to their guests at no extra charge.
