Engelberg gets an additional World Cup ski-jumping event
Engelberg is the main town of an exclave of the canton of Obwalden in southeastern Switzerland, where it borders the cantons of Bern, Nidwalden and Uri. As a year-round holiday destination in Switzerland, Engelberg is especially popular with hikers and cyclists in summer, while winter sports clearly dominate during the colder months. Over the weekend of December 18–20, 2009, the hotels and ski lodges in Engelberg will once again be bursting at the seams. Engelberg has almost traditionally been the last stop on the Ski Jumping World Cup circuit before Christmas and the Four Hills Tournament, adding to the appeal of a ski holiday in Switzerland.
Engelberg gets an additional World Cup ski-jumping event
Date: 30/09/2026
Originally, a World Cup ski-jumping event was scheduled to take place in Engelberg on both Saturday and Sunday. Since the World Cup event planned for this weekend in Harrachov, Czech Republic, cannot go ahead because of a lack of snow, the FIS has named Engelberg as the replacement venue and scheduled a third World Cup ski-jumping event there, to be held on Friday. The Nordic combined athletes, who are also unable to compete in Harrachov, will instead head to Ramsau in Austria.
The sporting programme for the World Cup ski-jumping event in Engelberg will therefore begin on Friday at 10 a.m. with training, followed at noon by the qualification round for the World Cup event, which is scheduled to start at 1:45 p.m. The other World Cup ski-jumping events in Engelberg will also start at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The German eagles will also use the ski-jumping event in Switzerland for a final form check before the prestigious Four Hills Tournament, which will take place after Christmas in Oberstdorf, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Innsbruck and Bischofshofen.
