The Tyrolean Piste Quality Seal is an award conferred by the provincial government in the form of a certificate on ski resorts in Tyrol that meet specified minimum requirements for cable cars, ski lifts and ski runs, and maintain high standards in piste grooming, signage and safety measures. Other awards include TOP PISTE GROOMING (2008/2009, snow-online.de) and TOP FOR FAMILIES (2008/2009, skigebiete-test.de).
The reason for Galtür’s high reputation is SILVAPARK’s special focus on family holidays and its modern, well-maintained facilities. SILVAPARK in Galtür is the result of a partnership between the local mountain railways, the ski and snowboard school based in the resort, and the regional Paznaun-Ischgl tourism association. In 2007, people in Galtür agreed that their immediate neighbours in the Tyrolean Alps were all much larger ski resorts, and that Galtür needed to specialize in a few target groups. SILVAPARK introduced a concept designed primarily for families with children, while also offering incentives for other groups of Alpine ski holidaymakers.
The results speak for themselves: many facilities have been created especially for families with children. From the Bambiniland, with its own kindergarten in the “Zwergerlwelt” (for children aged 2 and up) and a children's ski school, to the adventure area for children with skiing experience, there is plenty on offer for younger visitors. Needless to say, adult skiers are well catered for too. A total of 10 lifts serve the approximately 40 kilometres of ski runs. The Birkhahnbahn, for example, offers a run of around 1,500 metres with a vertical drop of 415 metres—the longest run in SILVAPARK Galtür.
The number of guests staying in hotels and holiday apartments in Galtür has risen significantly over the last two years, an increase in the Paznaun region attributed in no small part to SILVAPARK.
