Merano expands its cable car capacity
Ifinger Seilbahn AG, which operates the ski lifts around the winter sports resort of Merano in South Tyrol, has now presented the South Tyrol Technical Advisory Board with a concept for modernizing the ski lift in Merano. Under the plan, the cable car connecting the valley station in Merano with the ski resort itself would be fitted with new passenger cabins, each able to carry up to 120 winter sports enthusiasts. According to Ifinger Seilbahn AG, this would be the most effective way to ease congestion during peak periods, as it explained when presenting the concept.

The South Tyrol Technical Advisory Board evidently shares this view and approved the proposal at one of its recent meetings. Although the board's approval is not strictly necessary, it makes the operating company eligible for funding from the Province of South Tyrol. The cost of the new cable car, which hotels in Merano had also strongly supported, amounts to 20 million euros.

Ski lift in Merano
The ski lift in Merano, which will have the largest passenger cabins in all of South Tyrol, was designed by Bolzano architect Roland Baldi, while engineer Mauro Naletto is overseeing the project's technical aspects. Both Baldi and Naletto have many years of experience planning and building ski lifts in South Tyrol and beyond. Merano does not yet have a precise schedule for putting the concept into practice, as the project is still at a very early planning stage.
