Folgaria ski area (Italy) prepares for winter

With 50 kilometres of pistes, the winter sports resort of Folgaria may not be one of the largest ski areas in South Tyrol or Trentino, but it is certainly one of the most beautiful. To ensure that skiers, cross-country skiers and snowboarders can once again enjoy perfectly groomed pistes and trails next winter, the team at the Folgaria ski area has set itself a number of tasks to complete over the summer. The centrepiece of this plan is the installation of a new snowmaking system on the main Agonistica and Plaut-Sommo Alto-Fondo Piccolo pistes.

Folgaria Ski has been working for years with TechnoAlpin, a manufacturer based in nearby Bolzano, which should ensure the system is completed smoothly and, above all, on time for the start of the 2009/10 winter season. The expansion of artificial snowmaking in the Folgaria ski area in Trentino is necessary because the Agonistica piste was substantially widened a few months ago, while the Plaut-Sommo Alto-Fondo Piccolo piste provides a link to the lifts at Passo Coe.

In addition to its magnificent pistes, Folgaria’s central location within the larger Skitour dei Forti ski area also contributes to the winter sports resort’s appeal in Trentino-South Tyrol. The ski hotels in Trentino-South Tyrol also set the standard for all of Italy in terms of service and customer satisfaction. Skiing, cross-country skiing and snowboarding are generally possible in Folgaria from October to April. Folgaria’s value for money is comparable to that of other ski regions in Italy, Trentino and South Tyrol.
