Date change for the Black Forest Cup in Schonach

Fans of Nordic combined will have to wait a few weeks longer next season before the World Cup makes a stop in Schonach in the beautiful Black Forest. Instead of on January 2/3, 2010, Ronny Ackermann & Co. will take to the ski jump and the trails in Schonach three weeks later, on January 23/24, to compete for Nordic combined World Cup points.

By rescheduling the World Cup in the Black Forest, the International Ski Federation (FIS) acceded to the request of several broadcasters, who would prefer to see the Nordic combined athletes in Oberhof, Thuringia, immediately after the turn of the year. The cross-country skiing World Cup will also take place in Oberhof that weekend; it is also part of the “Tour de Ski,” the cross-country skiing equivalent of the ski jumpers’ Four Hills Tournament. The Black Forest Cup in Schonach gets a small boost in stature in return, as it takes place shortly before the Olympics and is therefore one of the last form tests ahead of next winter’s major sporting event.

Winter sports have always been a big deal in Schonach and the Black Forest, so athletes and fans can expect excellent conditions during the Nordic combined Black Forest Cup. Just a few kilometers from Schonach, the FIS Nordic Junior World Ski Championships will be held in Hinterzarten in the days following the Nordic combined Black Forest Cup.
