Easter in the Bavarian Forest
In early April, school holidays begin in almost all German federal states, providing one of the last opportunities of the 2008/09 winter season to take a family ski holiday. At the end of the ski season, the Bavarian Forest is a particularly popular destination, offering excellent conditions for alpine skiing and cross-country skiing even in early April. At the top of the list of the most popular ski resorts in the Bavarian Forest is the winter sports resort of Mitterdorf, which has something for every taste and age group, from cross-country skiing and alpine skiing to bobsledding and sledding.
At an altitude of over 1,000 meters, Mitterdorf in the Bavarian Forest offers families a large ski area with a total of five lifts and slopes of varying difficulty. The newly opened ski school in Mitterdorf, known as the Junior Ski Circus, takes children under its wing and teaches them the art of skiing or snowboarding under expert guidance. If they still have enough energy, visitors can also hit the ski slopes in and around Mitterdorf at night, with floodlights ensuring optimal visibility.
A very welcome change from the downhill slopes and cross-country trails is a sleigh ride pulled by a team of horses. Special options are available for the whole family, too, as the horse-drawn sleighs can easily accommodate two adults and two children. This is one of the loveliest ways to experience the Bavarian Forest around Mitterdorf.
