Grünten Ski Park in the Allgäu

The German ski area of Kranzegg/Rettenberg lies on the northern edge of the Alps, in the border region between Germany and Austria. Rettenberg is only a few kilometers from Oberstdorf, one of the Allgäu’s best-known winter sports resorts. One of the biggest attractions in the Kranzegg/Rettenberg ski area is the Grünten Fun Park, which has been run by Schneestern for four years and is extremely popular not only with tourists but also with locals. The Grünten Fun Park consists mainly of jumps of various sizes, which naturally attract particular interest from younger and more advanced skiers and snowboarders.

However, Maxi Kaiser of the operating company Schneestern is keen to point out that extreme-sports-style jumps of 30 meters or more are not really in demand at the Grünten Fun Park. Visitors who come to enjoy themselves at the park care more about the perfect angle of the jumps, which allows for relatively high speeds and stylish tricks.

Kaiser attributes the Grünten Fun Park’s success in the Allgäu partly to the constant expansion of its offerings, and partly to the fact that the team is always looking for the latest trends and incorporating them into the park in Rettenberg. Asked about the proportions of tourists and locals, and of male and female skiers and snowboarders, Kaiser describes the mix as a healthy one.
