Free skiing fun for children in Gstaad

The Gstaad ski region in the Bernese Oberland has put together a special holiday package for the 2008/09 winter season that is particularly family- and child-friendly. Children up to the age of 9 can use all mountain railways and ski lifts in the Gstaad Mountain Rides winter sports area free of charge. In addition to skiing, activities offered free of charge to children by the Gstaad ski region include sledging and winter hiking. Skis, snowboards and other winter sports equipment are available to rent in Gstaad at particularly attractive rates.

Most hotels in and around Gstaad also do their part to make the entire winter holiday—not just skiing—as appealing and affordable as possible for families with children. Children up to the age of 9 who share a room with their parents stay at no extra charge. Older children and teenagers receive a substantial discount in this case.

Free skiing fun for children is only the first half of an attractive winter holiday in Gstaad. Gstaad is also known for its very safe pistes and cross-country trails, earning the Bernese Oberland resort the top spot in this regard among the 11 largest ski areas in Switzerland and Germany. There is just one accident for every 19,000 or so skiers. Should a skiing accident nevertheless occur, highly trained patrol and safety staff are on hand to step in immediately as first responders.
