Après-ski in Austria really gets going!

The ski holiday season in Austria is already well underway. And the après-ski venues are once again ready to welcome skiers after a day on the slopes. Austria is known as the birthplace of après-ski. Ischgl, Sölden, Saalbach-Hinterglemm, St. Anton am Arlberg and the Zillertal are especially renowned for their first-rate après-ski. The parties here often go on until the early hours. Many skiers come not only for the wonderful slopes. In Switzerland and Italy, après-ski is less spectacular.

One of the top après-ski spots with excellent food and drink is Ischgl in Tyrol. The “Kuhstall,” together with the surrounding pubs, forms a little party village. The place comes alive with a great atmosphere and lively après-ski, with Jagertee and mulled wine. It is right next to the valley run. Once you’ve sampled it, you’re sure to come back.

Tyrolean St. Anton am Arlberg is also famous for its fun and lively atmosphere. The last ski hut on the valley run, the “Mooserwirt,” offers spectacular après-ski, though only from 4 to 8 p.m. It has just about everything you could want: the party really gets going, and the service is very quick. So don’t arrive too late, or you may have trouble finding a seat.

The “Goaßstall” in Hinterglemm, in the Salzburg region, also offers wonderful panoramic views. The partying goes on late, with great music. The atmosphere is just as good in the outdoor umbrella bars.

Tyrolean Sölden is also known for its après-ski. Partygoers should choose the right time to visit, though. If it’s too quiet, the party atmosphere won’t really get going here either. The “Philipp,” beside the valley run, offers a lovely atmosphere and friendly service.
