Ski paradise New Zealand is buried in snow
Mount Ruapehu on the Turoa side, in the centre of the North Island, currently has over 4 m of the finest powder snow. These are record-breaking levels for New Zealand. These snow conditions promise a fantastic ski holiday in New Zealand. Turoa is therefore expected to remain open until 17 November.

The side of the summit facing the ski village of Whakapapa also has almost 4 m of snow cover. Wanaka’s Snow Park is another insider tip for snowboarders and freeriders. It is considered one of the best in the entire Southern Hemisphere!
Wanaka is due to close on 27 October. However, it will reopen over Christmas, from 26 December 2008 to 3 January 2009. This means ski holidaymakers can enjoy a “white Christmas” in the New Zealand summer!
The Iwikau Village ski settlement consists entirely of ski lodges. Whakapapa is in Tongariro National Park. It is the fourth-oldest national park in the world and the oldest in New Zealand.
Three active volcanoes lie in the heart of New Zealand’s national park. On the slopes of 2,797 m-high Ruapehu are three ski areas on the North Island: Whakapapa, Turoa and Tukino.
Mount Hutt ski area near Christchurch has also offered excellent skiing conditions for years. Norwegian and Austrian ski racers are currently enjoying perfect training conditions there, too.
Those on a ski holiday who don’t want to bring skis in their luggage are well catered for as well. All the ski areas have a good selection of rental skis.
New Zealand offers ski runs for every ability level. The country’s mountain scenery offers ski holidaymakers spectacular routes. Heli-skiing is also popular in New Zealand.
