Switzerland – a ski paradise for connoisseurs!

Not all Swiss ski resorts are in the Alps. The glacier ski resorts, such as Les Diablerets and Zermatt, offer fantastic skiing on peaks over 3,000 metres high. Zermatt is probably the largest year-round ski resort in the Alps.

A merger and partial connection of the Airolo, Andermatt, Fiesch and Disentis ski resorts is also planned. This was announced by Egyptian investor Samih Samih. Les Portes du Soleil is considered the largest ski area in the world. More than 600 kilometres of pistes lie in the French Haute-Savoie and the Swiss canton of Valais.

The summer ski areas are in Engelberg-Titlis, Saas-Fee, Matterhorn Ski Paradise / Zermatt, and Val d’Anniviers and Zermatt. Winter ski resorts are of great importance to Switzerland. However, Swiss banks no longer invest in ski destinations below 1,500 m. The Austrian resort of Kitzbühel, at around 700 m, would probably struggle to compete in Switzerland.

The Swiss did not invent skiing themselves. But ski tourism opened up the Swiss mountains very quickly. Switzerland’s first ski school opened in 1929. Snowboarders, too, soon discovered the Swiss ski resorts. St. Moritz is regarded as the birthplace of winter sports and ski tourism. This cosmopolitan resort is one of the Alps’ most famous ski destinations.

International society gathers in Switzerland to see and be seen on a ski holiday. Quality is the order of the day here, and it comes at a price. Package holidaymakers are rarely drawn there. But if you want to enjoy culinary delights on your ski holiday, Switzerland is certainly the right destination.
