Alpine Skiing in Indoor Ski Halls and a Ski Vacation at Patscherkofel

Experts believe the future of alpine skiing lies in indoor ski halls. Indoor world championship competitions are likely to become a reality soon. Peter Schröcksnadel, president of the Austrian Ski Association, is very sure of it too. Indoor ski halls offer the same conditions during the day and at night.

On “Sports Day,” the ÖSV president took a look at the future of skiing from Patscherkofel, Innsbruck’s local mountain. In the picturesque evening glow, the training center could be seen down in the valley. Young people will train here in the future.

The ski area on 2,246 m-high Patscherkofel is just a few kilometers from Innsbruck. It takes only about 15 minutes to drive there.

Around 6 to 10 million € have been invested in the expansion of Patscherkofel. New restaurants, floodlighting and snowmaking facilities will significantly improve the infrastructure. Innsbruck’s local mountain is set to become one of the most attractive ski mountains. Innsbruck is only 7 km from the Igls valley station. During your ski vacation, you can explore the Tyrolean capital at your leisure.

The new “Downhill” mountain restaurant already offers guests around 150 indoor seats. The new panoramic terrace affords a breathtaking view of the idyllic mountain scenery. And the little ski bunnies can play to their hearts’ content in the new children’s area at the OLEX Center.

World Cup downhill races were held on Patscherkofel in 1964 and 1976. Skiing greats such as the legendary Franz Klammer raced down its slopes. During your ski vacation, it’s well worth following in the footsteps of the ski stars—or trying out the wider slopes with the whole family. In any case, Patscherkofel offers an impressive mountain panorama featuring many peaks over 3,000 meters.
