Ski holiday prices are rising
The cost of a ski holiday is set to rise. The individual cable car companies will decide how much to increase their prices. However, price rises of 2 to 4% are generally expected. Inflation and energy prices that have risen by as much as 70% are to blame. Since energy costs account for more than a third of total operating costs, price increases are unavoidable.
Families in particular will feel the pinch. For example, a day pass for adults at Zell am See in Austria will now cost 40 euros during the peak season. Last season, it was 38.50 euros. The Amade ski area is now charging 66.50 euros for a 1½-day pass, up from 64 euros.
Ski holiday prices are rising
Date: 30/09/2026
This is not good news for ski holidaymakers. But there is some better news from the ski resorts: the first snow has already fallen this September. For example, Tyrol was already decked out in its first winter finery on Wednesday. There were already a few centimetres of snow in the Alps. Naturally, this gives us hope for the coming ski season.
In the Eastern Alps, the snow line dropped to 1,200 m. In the Western Alps, it is still at 2,600 m. This made many skiers' hearts beat faster. Temperatures are likely to drop even further by the weekend. That won't put ski enthusiasts off, even with price rises on the horizon. It will be interesting to see when the first ski resorts open!
