Tannheim Valley Event in a Cross-Country Skiing Paradise
The Tyrolean Tannheim Valley, on the border with the Allgäu region, is very easy to reach, just about a 2-hour drive from Stuttgart and Munich. This skiing and cross-country skiing paradise also has plenty to offer for a summer holiday: beautiful mountain lakes, 70 km of mountain bike trails, 22 road cycling routes and around 300 km of hiking trails. There are also places to stay ranging from 5-star hotels to affordable family guesthouses.

The Tannheim Valley is considered one of Europe's most beautiful high valleys. It is a small but delightful ski area, without a huge ski arena. The FIS downhill run offers challenging terrain for experienced skiers. Cross-country skiers will also find a paradise of trails here. Around 140 km of well-maintained trails are suitable for less experienced skiers, too. Faster cross-country skiers appreciate the skating tracks that run alongside some of the trails. Snowboarders are drawn to the Tannheim Neunerköpfle Funpark.
The Neunerköpfle ski area and panoramic mountain are also popular with paragliders and hang-glider pilots. There are two launch sites at the Neunerköpfle mountain station and a huge landing area near the valley station.
The Tannheim Valley also offers families an exceptional range of leisure activities in summer. A bike ride to Vilsalpsee Nature Park near Tannheim is sure to be fun for the whole family. Eleven challenging mountain bike routes wind through 70 km of this picture-perfect valley.
Events such as the “burning mountains” on May 31 and June 1 draw spectators to the valley at dusk. Fires are lit professionally on the mountain peaks at the same time. For spectators in the valley, strings of lights appear in the shape of blazing hearts, praying hands or crosses.
The Two-Lakes Run on June 7 is one of the most beautiful Alpine races. In 2007, more than 650 Nordic walkers and runners took part. Participants can choose between two routes around two of Tyrol's most beautiful mountain lakes: the longer 25.6 km route around Lake Haldensee and Vilsalpsee, or the 12.5 km route around Vilsalpsee. The race starts at around 4 p.m. in Tannheim, at the tourist association building. After enjoying sport and nature, participants can look forward to an awards ceremony, a raffle and a party.
