Chiemsee Paradise for Ski and Summer Holidays
The Chiemsee region is one of Bavaria’s most popular holiday destinations. Lake Chiemsee lies nestled in the Chiemgau Alps, at the foot of the 1,669 m-high Kampenwand. The ski slopes are very well maintained. Skiers and cross-country skiers will find a little winter sports paradise here. In summer, the ski area offers popular terrain for paragliders and hang gliders. Climbers, mountain bikers and hikers are also especially drawn to the southern Kampenwand. The view of Lake Chiemsee is breathtakingly beautiful not only during the ski season.
Ski tourers and tobogganers can also enjoy themselves at Lake Chiemsee, especially in the Priental mountains. Sachrang, in the southern Priental valley, is also a great place to go skiing. More than 30 cross-country trails await skiers. When snow conditions are good, almost all holiday resorts groom additional cross-country ski trails.

It’s not just the ski season that offers unforgettable holiday experiences. The region is a paradise for family holidays, even in summer. A stay on a farm is especially great fun for little ones. Here, kids can even play at being piglets. They feed the rabbits while their parents unwind from the stresses of everyday life. Horse-riding or fishing lessons and carriage rides are little adventures, too. Everyone enjoys the barbecues, children’s parties and puppet shows together. And the children especially love helping out on the farm.
The Chiemsee region also offers cultural events. The Musikfrühling festival runs from 1 to 8 June in Traunstein. Fourteen international artists from 11 countries perform classical music.
The Prienavera adventure pool in Prien is also very popular. On 28 June, the “Chiemsee Night in White” brings live music to the pool. Cool cocktails offer refreshment at the open-air party. Spectacular dirt bike, light and water shows add to the excitement.
Don’t miss the Chiemsee Reggae Summer from 22 to 24 August. It is considered Germany’s largest reggae festival. Things are sure to heat up at Lake Chiemsee.
