Summer Events in the Berchtesgaden Ski Area

The Berchtesgaden ski area offers first-class winter sports opportunities on the Watzmann. World championships in snowboarding, alpine skiing, bobsleigh and luge are held here. The Jenner ski area is said to have hosted the very first World Cup race. Ski professionals put their skills to the test here. There are also wonderful cross-country ski trails at Königssee, as well as fantastic winter sports opportunities for less advanced skiers and snowboarders.

The natural beauty of Berchtesgaden offers almost unlimited opportunities for adventure—not just in winter. Its picturesque landscape, with its unique flora and fauna, also promises plenty of variety in summer. Germany’s only alpine national park invites visitors to hike across vast alpine meadows. Many rare animals call this place home. With a little luck, you may spot a majestic golden eagle in flight.

The Berchtesgadener Land is nature at its finest. There is so much to discover, whether hiking, mountain biking, paragliding or rafting amid its diverse, beautiful scenery.

Berchtesgaden has several highlights in store this summer, too. “A Taste of Tradition at St. Bartholomä” is the motto on Friday, May 16, 2008. The last rays of sunshine accompany the boat trip across Königssee. The former hunting lodge of St. Bartholomä welcomes guests with lively Bavarian music. There is plenty of fun to be had in this wildly romantic setting, while a delicious three-course meal treats the palate.

On May 18, a motorcycle gathering at Rossfeld/Panoramastraße, featuring a motorcycle blessing, gets underway at around 10 a.m. The Family Activity Day follows on May 23, 2008. The event takes place in the car park at the Berchtesgaden salt mine. An exciting programme is on offer, with magician and clown Tommi, a balance and action show, and other surprise performances. According to the organisers, admission is free for children up to the age of 14.
