Wank Cable Car Anniversary on the Zugspitze
Garmisch-Partenkirchen’s panoramic mountain Wank celebrates its anniversary on May 25, 2008. For 25 years, the Wankbahn cable car has been taking ski holidaymakers and other visitors to the summit. The 1,780 m-high Wank lies opposite the Zugspitze. It is perfect for family outings and is as popular with families as it is with paragliders and hikers. Wank offers a magnificent view of the Zugspitze.
The anniversary of Garmisch-Partenkirchen will be celebrated with a big party on Wank. The first Wankbahn cable car ride on anniversary day is scheduled to depart at around 8:45 a.m. A lively program will follow the mountain service at around 11 a.m.

Children can let loose on the bouncy castle, perhaps paint pictures, or eagerly await the balloon-flying competition. Adults will also have plenty to enjoy. The most daring can take a tandem flight or try some exciting climbing with the children on the climbing wall.
The Wankhaus and Sonnenalm will serve hearty Bavarian delicacies and offer live music. The raffle on May 25 is also not to be missed. Prizes are set to include a free tandem flight, Wankbahn vouchers, and tickets to the adventure forest. What’s more, rides on the Wankbahn will be free for young visitors up to the age of 18 on anniversary day.
But the celebrations will be far from over then. They will continue all summer, from May to October. Events include “Music on Wank” (June 7, July 5, August 2 and 16, September 2 and 20, and October 4 and 18), as well as “Tank on Wank” (July 18, August 22, and September 12), with original barbecue evenings, parties, and fantastic panoramic views. According to the organizers, the Wankbahn will even run extra services until sunset for “Dance on Wank.”
A ride on the Wankbahn is an experience in itself. Ski holidaymakers know the breathtaking panoramic views of the Karwendel mountains and the Zugspitze, stretching across the lakes of Upper Bavaria to Munich and Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Paragliders and hang gliders add to the magnificent scene.
