Top ski area: La Plagne

The La Plagne ski area in France’s Savoie region is one of Europe’s hotspots. Its sun-drenched range of ski holidays is diverse, and unusual winter sports are also popular. These include bobsleighing, paragliding and ice skating. The 1,500 m bobsleigh track was built for the 1991 Winter Olympics. Reaching enormous speeds on a 14.5% gradient and around 19 bends presents a special sporting challenge.

It’s not just ambitious skiers who will find their snow paradise here. Car-free La Plagne is also ideal for family holidays. The ski area has mainly blue runs, and its childcare is considered exemplary. Teenagers can put their skills to the test on the boardercross course or in the 3 snowparks – Bellecôte, Champagny en Vanoise and Montchavin.

More than 210 km of pistes and 110 lifts await snowboarders and skiers. There are runs for every ability level. The ski area is very spacious, so even short waits are relatively rare.

The picturesque mountain villages are often very close to the slopes. Sometimes all skiers have to do is strap on their skis to set off. La Plagne also has plenty to offer those who are less keen on sports. You can enjoy the magnificent mountain scenery, with its views of Mont Blanc, without having to be particularly athletic.

The 3,250 m-high Bellecôte Glacier offers excellent snow reliability. Many runs reach elevations of up to 3,000 m. Even in summer, around 3 lifts are still in operation. At 15 km, Bellecôte-Montchavin is considered the longest descent. Together with Les Arcs and Pesey Vallandry, La Plagne forms the “Paradiski” ski area. At 425 km, it is one of the largest in the world.
