Ski Jumping Workshop on a Ski Holiday in Oberstdorf

It takes a little courage to attempt your first jump at the Schattenberg Erdinger Arena. But knowing that even six-year-olds have made jumps on Oberstdorf’s 20 m K-20 hill boosts your confidence. Workshop participants make jumps of 15 m on average.

Naturally, they prepare for their first jump with training exercises on the ground. These include warm-ups, balance exercises, practicing body position for take-off and controlling the flight. The daring participants in the ski jumping workshop are accompanied by highly qualified coaches, including former members of the national team and ski jumping members of the Oberstdorf Ski Club.

Not every workshop participant will become the “King of the Air.” However, you don’t need any special “skiing skills” to take part. It’s fascinating that workshop participants can supposedly make an “eagle jump” of 15 to 25 m as early as the first afternoon!

Today’s “eagles of the air” in the workshops hover just 30–40 cm above the ground. The real “eagles of the air” are actually about 12 meters up in the air.

The Oberstdorf ski areas of Fellhorn, Nebelhorn and Söllereckbahn are suitable for experts and beginners alike. The highest ski mountain in the Allgäu is Nebelhorn, with Germany’s longest run (about 7.5 km). Expert skiers will find a challenge on the steep Latschenhang slope. Snowboarders head for the halfpipe above the mountain station, while cross-country skiers can enjoy the 2.5 km circular trail at the Sealpe mid-station.

Oberstdorf has plenty to offer ski holidaymakers. There’s always something going on here—without the rush, but never boring either. Oberstdorf still exudes village charm, with its lively bustle and peaceful atmosphere. There’s always something to discover here.
