Skiing and snowboarding fun at the Zugspitze ski resort

Following an announcement by Bayerische Zugspitzbahn, the ski season at the Zugspitze will be extended until April 6. The frequent snowfalls of recent days have surely helped. Mother Hulda has provided wonderful powder snow on Germany’s highest peak. Skiers can look forward to ideal slopes.

At 2,000 to 2,830 m, the Zugspitze ski area is considered the highest in Germany. This deep-snow paradise offers ideal terrain for snowboarders, freeriders, and skiers of all ability levels. An insider tip for freeriders is the unprepared powder runs after fresh snowfall. For example, the Aspen Run descent on the Zugspitzplatt remains untouched after fresh snow. An early start is essential if you want to be the first to leave tracks in the powder. A dream for all freeriders!

Special deals are also available. So it’s well worth taking one more run down the wonderful ski slopes before the season ends. The Zugspitzbahn’s spectacular sunset rides at dusk are also highly recommended. The Bavarian evening that follows features regional delicacies, an incredible panoramic view, and live music. Watching the natural spectacle of the setting sun is an unforgettable experience, as it bathes the peaks in breathtaking colors. The Zugspitzbahn special train even starts at Garmisch train station.

Two Zugspitzbahn locomotives will also find a new home at the Deutsches Museum in Munich. After clocking up 800,000 kilometers and more than 9 million vertical kilometers, the nearly 80-year-old mountain locomotive 11 and valley locomotive 3 will set off on their final journey on March 31.

On April 12, the ski area is hosting a Charity Hike fundraising race. Snowboarders, skiers, and telemarkers can take part, provided they have sponsors supporting them. The aim is to raise as much money as possible during the five-hour race. The winners will receive valuable prizes. The funds raised will go toward youth programs, avalanche dogs, environmental protection, and more.
