Kitzbühel Skiing and Après-Ski
Kitzbühel is one of Austria’s most important winter sports areas. It lies in eastern Tyrol, at the 1,996 m-high Kitzbüheler Horn and the Hahnenkamm (1,712 m). The ski resort of Kitzbühel is also the capital of the Kitzbühel district. With the neighbouring slopes of Jochberg, Kirchberg and Pass Thurn, Kitzbühel is probably Austria’s largest interconnected ski area.
The Hahnenkamm summit is also famous for the Hahnenkamm Alpine Ski World Cup races. Downhill, Super-G and slalom competitions are held in Kitzbühel, as are women’s races. The notorious Streif ski run on the Hahnenkamm is considered the most dangerous ski racecourse in the world.

Around 170 km of pistes, 40 km of cross-country trails and 55 ski lifts await winter sports enthusiasts in the upmarket ski mecca of Kitzbühel. The new eight-seat Steinkogel chairlift offers maximum comfort, with heated seats and weather protection. Summer also offers a varied range of sporting activities. Around 120 km of mountain biking trails and 500 km of hiking paths wind through picturesque scenery. There are also six tennis courts, a swimming pool, a curling rink and four golf courses. And don’t forget Schwarzsee, perfect for swimming.
As is well known, Kitzbühel attracts many celebrities. The jet set gathers here for more than just the Hahnenkamm race. The World Cup draws around 100,000 spectators to Kitzbühel each year. Media from around 35 countries cover the race, bringing the region considerable financial gains worth millions.
Snowboarders will also find their snowy paradise on the Hahnenkamm and Kitzbüheler Horn. They can test their limits on professional facilities. A 450 m-long Boarder X course lies 100 metres below the summit station. Mogul runs, jumps, snakes, quarterpipes and a wave ride get snowboarders’ hearts racing. The halfpipe is above the Alpenhaus.
Top-notch après-ski is a given in Kitzbühel, with more than 40 mountain huts right on the slopes. Despite the jet set, prices are comparable to those in other ski resorts. Enjoy après-ski with breathtaking panoramic views.
