Sporting competitions are right at home here. Many sporting events are held in Oberstdorf. The Four Hills Tournament and the Alpine FIS World Cup races are among the best known. Oberstdorf is also one of the few places in the world capable of hosting the Ski Flying World Championships.

There are only six ski flying hills in the entire world. The US ski flying hill Copper Peak is now closed. The hill in Vikersund, Norway, no longer meets FIS requirements. Planica in Slovenia will host the World Championships in 2010. The Letalnica ski flying hill there is considered the largest in the world. Other hills are located in Harrachov in the Czech Republic, Bad Mitterndorf in Austria and Oberstdorf.

The Heini-Klopfer ski flying hill in Oberstdorf is probably the second highest in the world. It will host this year’s Ski Flying World Championships from February 21 to 24. The kings of the air will once again soar over the famous hill. Will they be able to break the 223-meter record set by Norway’s Roar Ljoekelsoey?

Training and qualification begin on February 21. The individual competition rounds, followed by the awards ceremony, take place on February 22 and 23. The team competition rounds and awards ceremony are on February 24.

And it’s party time—with events starting at around 8 p.m. each evening at Nordic Park. Expect excitement, suspense, first-class sporting experiences and parties. This sensational highlight is not to be missed.
